MANAMA (IQNA) – A Bahraini political analyst said the Manama regime has faced major domestic challenges following its normalization of ties with the Tel Aviv regime.

Baqer Darwish, president of the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights

Speaking to IQNA, Baqer Darwish, president of the Bahrain Forum for Human Rights, said the scope of Bahrainis’ protests against their country’s normalization with the Zionist regime on the third anniversary of the signing of the normalization agreement shows the level of popular opposition to the move.

He said that due to the measures taken by the Manama regime to impose the normalization on the people, the hatred of the people against the move has intensified in recent years.

He stressed that it would be difficult for the Bahraini rulers to break the people’s opposition to the normalization, especially given the firm stance of top Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim against the move.

He highlighted the role of religious institutions in confronting normalization, saying the political and social institutions should also support the movement against normalization.

Elsewhere in the interview, Darwish referred to the Zionists’ attempts to own lands in Bahrain with the support of the Manama regime, saying they have raised many questions as to the objective of the Zionists.

He said some Hebrew media have even recently reported the Zionists’ purchase of a small island in Bahrain although they later removed the report.

He said the Manama regime has long had cooperation with the Zionist regime in espionage activities and confronting Bahraini political opposition figures and this also raises many questions.

He noted that the first visit to Bahrain by a Zionist regime official after normalization was made by the head of the Mossad spy agency.

In September 2020, Israeli regime’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed rapprochement agreements, known as the so-called Abraham Accords, with Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani, during an official ceremony hosted by former US president Donald Trump at the White House.
