Ramadan 2024: Mecca Making Preparations for Umrah Peak

IQNA – The Saudi city of Mecca, where Islam's holiest site is located, is making preparations to welcome a large number of worshippers during the sacred month of Ramadan.

A committee led by Prince Saud bin Meshal, the deputy governor of Mecca, reviewed the plans submitted by various agencies at a recent meeting, Saudi media outlets reported on Wednesday.

The plans include facilitating the entry and exit of foreign Muslims who come to the kingdom to perform Umrah, a minor pilgrimage, at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. The Saudi General Directorate of Passports explained the smooth and swift procedures at different ports of the kingdom.

The health authorities also presented their operation plan for Ramadan, which covers the King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, a main gateway for Umrah pilgrims, as well as health facilities in Mecca.

The Red Crescent also outlined its plans, which include deploying medical teams at the Grand Mosque and providing air ambulance services.

Ramadan, which is expected to start on March 11 this year, is a lunar month when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. It is also the peak season for Umrah in Saudi Arabia.

Many pilgrims who perform Umrah in Mecca also visit Medina, where the Prophet's Mosque, Islam's second holiest site, and other Islamic landmarks are situated.
