IQNA – With the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) approaching, the holy shrine of the first Shia Imam has been decorated with thousands of flowers.

The holy mausoleum and its courtyards were washed and cleaned and covered with new carpets.

Various flowers, including roses, were then used for decoration, according to the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine.

Meanwhile security measures have been ramped up in order to ensure the security of pilgrims on the auspicious occasion.

Numerous Moukebs (booths providing votive food and other services) have also been set up to serve the pilgrims.

Shia Muslims and others celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS) on the 13th day of the lunar month of Rajab, which falls on Thursday, January 25 this year.

A large number of pilgrims from Iraq and other countries visit the first Imam’s (AS) holy shrine in Najaf on the 13th day of Rajab every year.
