TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to the Holy Quran and history, Muhammad (PBUH) is the last messenger of God.

The Holy Quran says: “Muhammad is not the father of any of your men. He is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. Allah has knowledge of all things.” (Verse 40 of Surah Al-Ahzab)

But why the current of prophethood ended with Muhammad (PBUH)?

They change the water of a pool when it becomes contaminated and dirty. They repair a street, a house, a piece of clothing, a car, etc, when they are damaged and need repair. The need for a new prophet arises when there are distortions in the previous prophet’s book and teachings. When there is not the slightest change and distortion in the Quran, there is no need for a new messenger of God.

Despite previous divine books like the Torah and the Bible, in which there are distortions, there has been no distortion in the Quran.

We should also bear in mind that not all messengers of God had a book.

Another point is that when an illiterate person wants to go to a new address, he would need to ask for directions in every alley and street until he reaches the destination. But a person who can read will just need a map of the city and its streets to find the address.

When the society reaches a certain point of growth, it no longer needs to be directly guided by prophets. Of course, the guidance of infallible Imams (AS) and Faqihs for offering advice and safeguarding religious teachings and laws is necessary.

The just and learned Faqihs who are equipped with the general laws of the religion, can always extract divine teachings and rulings from the Quran and Hadiths.
