The OIC said in a statement that the organization’s Secretary General Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha condemns the move.
The secretary general and his special envoy had warned against such a decision several times before, including during the envoy’s visit to Kabul in November, the statement added.
Brahim Taha said suspension of female students’ access to universities undermines social justice and seriously harms the Taliban’s credibility.
The OIC called on the Taliban to reconsider the decision in line with the previous pledges made by the group.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric has also slammed the move, describing it as “troubling”.
On Tuesday, Afghanistan’s Taliban-run higher education ministry said that female students would not be allowed access to the country’s universities until further notice.
This move would effectively ban women’s education in Afghanistan.
