TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization’s Center for Dialogue among Faiths and Cultures held a forum on history of interreligious dialogues since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Forum in Tehran Discusses Interreligious Dialogues since Victory of Islamic Revolution

A number of religious and cultural experts attended the forum at ICRO’s headquarters here in Tehran, with senior researcher Seyed Abdul Majid Mirdamadi addressing it as the main speaker.

Mirdamadi highlighted the importance of dialogues among religious thinkers and their role in political, social and cultural structures.

He said a major portion of religious interactions and collaborations between different peoples and followers of various faiths takes place thanks to inter-religious dialogues, which help to develop new approaches to promote peace and friendship among faiths and religious schools of thought.

He further referred to the history of interreligious dialogue in Iran, saying not much attention was paid to it prior to the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

With the victory of the revolution though, efforts for organizing interfaith dialogue took a constructive shape and emerged as a way to promote peace and oppose violence in the world, Mirdamadi went on to say.

He also said that the first round of interfaith dialogue between Islam and Christianity was held between scholars and thinkers from Iran and the Vatican in 1994.

Ali Akbar Ziaei, head of the Center for Dialogue among Faiths and Cultures, was another speaker at the forum. He said a guidebook on interreligious dialogue is going to be prepared by the center.

He added more such forums will be held by the center in the future.

Peaceful coexistence among faiths in different countries, human rights, and interreligious dialogue at the international arena were among other topics discussed at the forum.
