Egyptian Quran Reciter Abu Al-Wafa Al-Saeedi Commemorated

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egyptians this week commemorated prominent qari Sheikh Mahmoud Abu al-Wafa al-Saeedi.

A renowned Quran reciter in the country and the Arab world, he died in November 2018 at the age of 64.

Al-Saeedi was known as Sawt al-Jabal (sound of mountain).

He was born in 1954 in a village in Egypt’s Aswan Governorate.

His mother was a teacher of Quran memorization who helped all of her children learn the Holy Book by heart.

Al-Saeedi began committing the Quran to memory at the age of four and after some years went to a number of Quran masters like Sheikh Muhammad Abulala and Sheikh Kamal to enhance his memorization skills.

He then began learning Quran recitation styles and soon became a well-known qari after releasing a cassette of his recitation of Surahs al-Naml and Maryam (Mary).

Mahmoud joined Egypt’s Quran Radio as a reciter in 1992.

He travelled to many countries for recitation of the Quran.

His son, Ahmed, who is a pharmacist by profession, is also a qari.

Sheikh Mahmoud Abu al-Wafa al-Saeedi died in his hometown on November 19, 2018, after saying Fajr (dawn) prayers.
