TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in the holy city of Qom on Sunday in memory of a former managing director of the International Quran News Agency (IQNA).

Former IQNA chief Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Taqavi was martyred in a Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) attack on Iran’s Parliament in 2017.

A number of officials and staff of the news agency attended the memorial service.

It included recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, elegy recitation, and speeches.

Speakers at the event praised the martyred cleric’s character and said he lived a life that made him worthy of achieving martyrdom.

On June 7, 2017, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Iran’s parliament building and on the mausoleum of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini (RA) in Tehran.

The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attacks, which killed 17 people and wounded more than 40.
