Wonders of Human Creation by the Best Creator
Iranian scholar and orator Hossein Elahi Qomshei in a series of lectures has discussed lessons and beautiful points from the Holy Quran. Here are excerpts from his remarks in the first session:
The discussion is about the wonders of human creation and how it begins from soil and the soil becomes a sperm-drop in the workshop of creation and how its wonders make a sagacious man contemplate the signs of God.
“And indeed, We created humankind from an extract of clay, then placed each ˹human˺ as a sperm-drop in a secure place, then We developed the drop into a clinging clot ˹of blood˺, then developed the clot into a lump ˹of flesh˺, then developed the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it into being as a new creation. So Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators. (Surah Muminoon, verses 12-14)
We are talking about the wonders of human creation and how it begins from soil and the soil becomes a sperm-drop in the workshop of creation and the drop is placed in a firm resting-place, and hundreds of thousands of intellects are amazed at its greatness and how such a place has been created for the growth of the new creature.
The drop gradually grows in that place in which all of its needs have been prepared and its shape slowly changes. At first, it is nothing but a shapeless lump of flesh and gradually the bones are formed from within it and the bones are covered with flesh and skin. Then God makes another creation in it which is not imaginable and turns the flesh, skin and bones into a human being.
One of the important questions of humans is this: When is the soul given to body? Some scholars have suggested 40 days as the specific period after the creation of the sperm-drop when the soul is given to a body, while the soul is beyond time and place.
In order to answer the question when a sperm-drop can be considered a human and destroying it can be considered murder, it can be said that the drop should be considered a complete human from the moment that the two male and female cells join and the cell dividing starts. That is because from that moment it has all of the features which will appear after birth.
Having created the world, God has never praised Himself except in the creation of human which is a collection of all wonders of creation. In other cases, God has glorified Himself and said “Subhan Allah”.
Subhan Allah means if He were the Sun, how could He create the moon? And if He were a triangle, how could He shape circle? So, He is neither a circle, nor a triangle, nor the moon, nor the sun, etc. He is the One who can create all of them and be none of them. He is the One and both this world and the next are but a ray from His face.
