TEHRAN (IQNA) – Al-Kawthar Cultural Institute in The Hague will hold a ceremony to commemorate the birth anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.

The event will take place on June 3, 2023, at 5:00 PM local time.

Imam Reza (AS) was born on the 11th day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Qaada, which coincides with Wednesday, May 31, this year.

Imam Reza (AS) was the son of Imam Mousa al-Kadhim (AS) and the grandson of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS). He was the leader of the Islamic community at the age of 35. He faced many hardships and persecutions from the Abbasid dynasty, which ruled the Muslim world at that time. He was poisoned by Ma’moon (the Abbasid Caliph) at the age of 55.

Imam Reza's (AS) shrine is located in Mashhad, Iran. It is one of the most sacred and visited sites for Shia Muslims. Every year, nearly 30 million pilgrims and visitors come to Mashhad to pay their respects to Imam Reza (AS).

The Netherlands is home to one of the largest Muslim minority populations in the European Union, in percentage terms.

There are almost one million Muslims in the country, accounting for about 6 percent of the population.

Muslims are mainly concentrated in large urban areas, especially the four biggest cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Ulrecht.
