TEHRAN (IQNA) – An official with the Arbaeen Headquarters said the body has prepared different programs for Arbaeen, including the staging of Quranic circles.

The Cultural and Educational Committee of Arbaeen Headquarters has planned various programs for those participating in Arbaeen March and those who could not go to Iraq due to COVID-19 restrictions, said the Committee’s head Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Ahmadi on Saturday.

Staging Quranic circles with presence of 24 qaris, honoring families of Hash al Shaabi martyrs, and presence of 240 bilingual Muslim missionaries are among programs of the committee, he said.

Six conferences with focus on Arbaeen teachings and Islamic world issues will also be held with presence of scholars from Iran, Iraq, Netherlands, Denmark, and England, and senior clerics from Najaf, Karbala, and Qom seminary schools, added Ahmadi.

Arbaeen, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).

Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to the Iraqi city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites. Many of them walk all the way from Najaf to Karbala.

This year, Arbaeen falls on September 27.
