Al-Kawthar Int’l Quran Contest Wraps Up

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian Qari was announced the winner of the 13th edition of an international Quran recitation competition organized by Al-Kawthar TV.

 

This year’s contest, which had begun on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, concluded on Saturday, the last night of the month, Al-Kawthar TV’s website reported.

According to the panel of judges, Yusef Jafarzadeh from Iran won the top title.

Gholam Rasoul Abbasi from Afghanistan was the runner-up and Mustafa Abdulsada from Iraq came third.

Pakistani Qari Hassan Ali and Bahraini contender Mustafa Iskafi came fourth and fifth, respectively.

The panel of judges comprised Quran experts from Iran, Egypt, Syria, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

Titled Inna lil-Muttaqina Mafaza (Indeed, for the righteous is attainment- Holy Quran, 78:31), it is the Muslim world’s biggest live Quran recitation competition aired by Al-Kawthar, an Arabic-language channel within the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting’s World Service.

The phone-in Quran contest was broadcast every night during the holy month at midnight Tehran time.
