TEHRAN (IQNA) – A statue of martyred Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani was unveiled in Lebanon near the border with the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to al-Markaziya news website, it was unveiled in a ceremony on Saturday in the southern town of Maroun al-Ras.

Sayyed Hashem Saffieddin, a senior Hezbollah official, addressed the ceremony, saying the US is wrong to think that by assassinating General Soleimani and his companions, the axis of resistance has become weaker.

Quite to the contrary, he said, the resistance front has gained more strength and become more prepared to counter Israel and the US hegemony on the region.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.
