TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 23rd edition of Kuwait’s national Quran competition kicked off in the capital Kuwait City on Sunday.

A total of 2754 men and women are competing in two sections in different categories, al-Ray daily reported.

The country’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry organizes the contest annually.

According to Lina al-Mutawa, a member of the organizing committee, a new category, namely Quran memorization for those aged 30 to 59 has been added to the competition this year.

Al-Mutawa said the category aims to encourage people in this age group to try to learn the Quran by heart.
