Renowned Iraqi Qari Passes Away
TEHRAN (IQNA) – A prominent Iraqi Quran reciter died on Thursday at the age of 76.
Alaeddin Qaisi died after a period of illness, al-Sumaria news website reported.
He was known to be among top Qaris in Iraq since the 1970s.
Qaisi was also known internationally, according to the reported.
He was named head of the Malaysia-based World Society of Quran Reciters in 2009.
Iraq is a Muslim-majority country where Quranic activities are common and Quran reciters are very popular.
There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
