TEHRAN (IQNA) – The preliminary stage of Oman’s 27th national Quran competition will get underway on Monday.

Oman Quran Contest to Kick Off Today

The contest, named after the country’s monarch, Sultan Qaboos, is held under the supervision of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Sciences and Culture, according to al-Watan daily.

Ali Abdullah Saqri, an official with the organizing committee, said registration for the Quranic event began on April 10 and concluded on August 7.

He said memorizers of a few Juzes (parts) to all Juzes of the Quran can attend the contest.

Over 2150 people have signed up to compete in different categories in the preliminary stage he noted.

In each category, 8 top contestants will make it to the final round, Saqri added.

The final stage is slated to be held in the capital Muscat in November.

Saqri said the annual Quran event has played a major role in identifying and encouraging Quranic talents in Oman.

The Sultanate of Oman is an Arab country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Virtually all Omanis are Muslims.
