TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf has told the country’s pilgrims to avoid political discussions during the upcoming Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the ministry also urged preachers who accompany the pilgrims to Hajj to provide the conditions for the Hajjis to do their rituals instead of entering into political debates.

Hajj is a religious occasion just for worshipping and not a political gathering, the ministry claimed.

According to Huffington Post, the first batch of Egyptian pilgrim will leave for Saudi Arabia on Sunday, August 21.

More than 62,000 Egyptians will perform Hajj this year, a Hajj official of the North African country said earlier this month.

80 preachers and clerics will accompany the Hajjis to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia.

Once a year, Muslims of every ethnic group, color, social status and culture, gather together in Mecca for the Hajj rituals.

The largest religious gathering in the world, the Hajj is a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford it.

The pilgrimage takes place from the 8th to 12th day of Dhul Hajjah, the 12th and last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which falls on September 10-14 this year.
