Int’l Quran Contests Help Promote Muslim Friendship: Afghan Qari
Seyed Yasin Hosseini, who represented Afghanistan in the 6th international Quran competition for school students, said the participation of students from different countries in such contests provides an opportunity for them to become friends and strengthen bonds among Muslim nations.
The 17-year-old, who won the second prize in the recitation category of the competition, described the level of this year’s event as high.
He further referred to his Quranic activities, saying that, encouraged by his mother, he started learning the Quran at an early age and enhanced his recitation skills by taking courses at Sadeqiya Dar-ol-Quran Center in Herat.
The courses offered in the center feature subjects like Tajweed, Lahn, Sawt and interpretation of the Quran, he noted.
Hosseini, who is interested in the Quran recitation style of late Egyptian master Shahat Muhammad Anwar, said has attended and won various Quranic contests in his home country.
Asked about a Quranic verse that he remembers all the time, he referred to verse 103 of Surah Al Imran “And hold fast to the Bond of Allah, together, and do not scatter. Remember the Favor of Allah bestowed upon you when you were enemies, and how He united your hearts, so that by His Favor you became brothers.”
He said contemplating this verse would lead to enhanced unity and fraternity among Muslims all over the world.
The 6th international Quran competition for school students, along with 4 other international Quran contests- those for men, women, the visually-impaired and seminary students- was held in Tehran on April 10-14.
Quran reciters and memorizers from 84 countries took part in the international events.
